House hunters at the end of 2021 looked keen to find a place to hang their Christmas stockings, according to research by GetAgent.co.uk, which looked at which cities presented the best chance for homebuyers to find a property with a fireplace.

According to Property Reporter, the estate agent comparison site analysed the current market listings across 23 major UK cities to see which was home to the highest number of properties that boasted a fireplace, as well as where this feature was most in-demand with house hunters.

The data shows that on average, just 19 per cent of properties currently listed on the market offer a fireplace and they’re very much in demand, with 71 per cent of those already sold subject to contract or under offer.

Swansea ranks top in terms of fireplace availability, with 32 per cent of all homes listed stating that they include a fireplace. Sunderland follows with 27 per cent, as does Nottingham, while Bradford, Plymouth and Leeds trail slightly with around 25 per cent of homes listed.

At the other end of the scale, Manchester offers the lowest chance of finding a fireplace property, with just 7 per cent of current homes for sale having one.

As for the highest demand, Glasgow ranks top with 86 per cent of properties with a fireplace already sold subject to contract, very closely followed by Bristol with 85 per cent, Cambridge (83 per cent), Sheffield (81 per cent) and Plymouth (81 per cent).

Aberdeen is home to the lowest demand for fireplace properties with just 14 per cent of those listed having already gone under offer or sold subject to contract.
